Acedia & Me – Introduction

I went out to Borders last night after stopping by the InterVarsity large group to make an announcement about Following Christ 2008. It was a nice break to browse the shelves and take in the newest titles on offer. Several weeks back I heard a piece (I think on NPR) about Kathleen Norris’s latest book Acedia and Me.

From what I’d heard, I knew I wanted to read the book. I wasn’t prepared for the sticker shock. The hardcover cost $25. I generally don’t buy hardcovers, but I made an exception because the book wasn’t in the library and, hey, it sounded intriguing.

Over the next several weeks, I’ll be making my way through the book and reflecting on Norris’s discussion of acedia (malaise) and depression all in the context of her life as a wife, mother, and writer. Stay tuned.
