Our gentle King

“…a bruised reed he will not break,
and a faintly burning wick he will not quench;
he will faithfully bring forth justice.”
-Isaiah 42:3, ESV

“O Hope of every contrite heart, O Joy of all the meek, to those who fall, how kind Thou art! How good to those who seek.”
-Bernard of Clairvaux (tr Edward Caswall), Hymns II (1974)

I spent the early part of this week in retreat prior to the start of our Regional Team Meetings in Atlanta. Coming into this time I was (am) acutely aware of my own weakness and feeling a deep desire to rest and experience the love and comfort of God.

He met and comforted me through the passage of Scripture above and in the words of Bernard of Clairvaux (which has been set to music as a hymn).

I share them with you in the hope that they may comfort you too.
