We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful

I stumbled across this article from a friend’s Facebook timeline and instantly wished I hadn’t when I followed the link. It’s a short report of a teenage girl who was separated from her father shortly after birth and now, having been reunited to him, has started to date him, has lost her virginity to him, and the two plan to wed.

This nauseating reality points to our progressive de-humanization. As C. S. Lewis points out in The Great Divorce, our modern society has eviscerated moral reasoning and then watched the gradual degradation of society into nothing more than the pursuit of satiation of our appetites (economic, sexual, etc). We have, as Lewis put it, “We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful.”

Where is the church in this mess?

Do we have anything to say? Are we presenting an alternate society to the world or are we simply a tamer version of the same underlying philosophy?
