I’m preparing to share some of my family history with a group of church members later this month. Since I’m a writer, I like to get as much use of the words I string together as possible. With that in mind, embedded below is a first draft of my remarks, which I am now in the process of editing.
I was initially to present in February, but my talk was cancelled due to snow. Since that initial date, I’ve decided to alter the talk slightly to focus more on the story of the Battle of Java, which is central to the story of the Gissing side of my family over the last three generations–a story dominated by the tragedy of war, a tragedy that affects the living and dead.
Thanks Jeff for sharing ‘Discovering My Story,’ – your story, your father’s story and Harold Gissing’s story. Each of our stories our very much a part of the stories of those who went before us. I am so glad for you, your father, and your families. That you were able to do the research and answer the questions your father has had about your grandfather for so many years is a great blessing. It was very satisfying to read what you wrote. Again thanks.
